Origin
Grown in Peru, where the warm, tropical climate and fertile growing regions provide ideal conditions for producing beautifully flavoured mangoes. The Haden variety has its origins in Florida, USA, where it was first developed in the early 20th century before becoming established in mango-growing regions around the world. Today, these Tree Ripened Peruvian Haden mangoes are particularly appreciated for their rich flavour, vibrant colour and wonderfully aromatic flesh. Superior quality mangos available now!
Why We Stock It
Our Peruvian Don Rider Haden mangoes are carefully selected for their generous size, attractive red and golden-yellow skin and naturally sweet, fragrant flesh. The Haden variety is particularly well regarded for its rich tropical flavour, with delicate peach-like aromas and a gentle balance of sweetness and acidity. Its firm, juicy texture and beautiful fragrance make it a wonderful seasonal mango.
Best Used For
Perfect for enjoying fresh, simply sliced or eaten straight from the skin. Their naturally sweet, aromatic flesh is delicious in fruit salads, smoothies, juices and desserts. They also work beautifully in salsas, chutneys and savoury dishes, pairing particularly well with lime, chilli, fresh herbs, seafood and grilled meats.
Storage
Store at room temperature until ripe, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Once the mango begins to soften gently when pressed and develops a fragrant aroma, it is ready to enjoy. If fully ripe, refrigerate to help maintain freshness and consume promptly for the best flavour and texture.
Care
Wash the mango before preparing. To cut, slice lengthways down either side of the large flat stone, creating two cheeks. Score the flesh into cubes without cutting through the skin, then turn the skin inside out to release the pieces. Alternatively, peel and slice as desired. Handle gently to avoid bruising the delicate ripe flesh.
